Volunteers In Mission/Disaster Response

Update 1-18-12

Reading, KS:

Needed this spring are skilled volunteers in Reading, Kansas to Assist Residents Impacted by the May 21, 2011 Tornado.

Steve Burnett, Assistant Conference Disaster Response Coordinator, has been working with the residents and assisting agencies in Reading since the tornado. He has facilitated the Long Term Recovery Committee as well as the case management process.

The Reading community has worked hard to begin the rebuilding process, but there is still much work to be done. There are currently two rebuilds in progress and skilled labor is needed for these, work includes: flooring, trim, sheetrock and painting. There are also: roofing jobs, vinyl siding installation, windows and doors to replace. Three Habitat for Humanity homes are also being planned for Reading and many work teams will be needed. Teams can schedule now! To schedule a work team to serve in Reading, please e-mail Steve at: srburn@madtel.net.

TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES:

Due to new guidelines set by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and United Methodist Committee on Relief, volunteers who wish to assist in the early stages following disasters must have Early Response Team Certification to volunteer.
