Outreach Ministry Opportunities for Service in Christ

The following list describes many of the opportunities for outreach ministry at Highland Park United Methodist Church. We are a church that serves and ministers to the community. “We invite you to find your place in the service ministry and pray for our community served.”

Emergency Assistance Program

We provide emergency assistance to individuals and families on an ongoing basis throughout the year. Our ability to help depends on donations our church members make to our emergency outreach fund. Typical things we help with include utilities, prescriptions, transportation, and occasionally rent. With increased frequency, we are seeing families where the head of the household has recently been laid off their job due to economic conditions of their employers. This program is coordinated by our Outreach worker, Barbara. She is reached through the church office and sees people by appointment. Sometimes Barbara asks church members to assist with certain requests that require some physical activity.

I Care, Inc. Food Bank

In cooperation with four other community churches, a food bank is operated from HPUMC for the distribution of food to those in need. Volunteers from the five churches pick up food, stock shelves and give out boxes of food to those in need. Hours are 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday through Friday.   Recently, commodities have been made available through the food bank and some participants of it have been assisting with a backpack program that provides food to school children in backpacks when they do not have access to school lunches.  Anyone is welcome to help out with I Care.  Call the church office and ask to be transferred to I Care during any of it's regular operating hours.
